In May of 2019, after graduating from RIT, I began working part time for Zelda’s Home and Garden, a local landscaping and cleaning company here in Rochester, NY. As the Lead Cleaning & Administrative Coordinator, I work closely with the owner to understand the way the business runs and develop and maintain workflows and tools to help increase efficiency and decrease the workload on the owner. For example, I developed a workflow to help employees submit their own time for cleaning and landscaping jobs, instead of the owner keeping track of employees’ time on paper, which takes up a lot of time. Now, the times for these jobs are all organized in a spreadsheet– we can even use this data to more accurately estimate time costs for future jobs and measure progress over time. I also maintain this system by checking over the entries for accuracy, updating data as necessary, and making improvements to the system as we further refine what we need from it.
