After returning from our trip to Kitt Peak, the group of students who observed there were invited to talk to the Astronomy Section of the Rochester Academy of Science. Each of the four of us gave short talks, approximately 10 minutes in length, about our research and our experiences observing at Kitt Peak.
Having found more variable stars than just my target in the images I took at Kitt Peak, I decided to talk more about this aspect of my research. I centered my talk around looking beyond what you set out to observe, and expressed my desire to make my images public– in astronomy, we take so many images, each of which contains so much information about things the original astronomer may never have even thought to study. However, by making images public, those who need data on a particular source may, by chance, find it in someone else’s images.
A video recording of the talks from that meeting can be found here.
