As a senior in high school, I was honored to receive the 2015 Live Out Loud Young Trailblazers Scholarship, in recognition of my efforts to enact new policies to protect transgender students at my high school.
During my junior year of high school, I met with administrators to ask them to implement a proactive policy to explicitly protect transgender students like myself under the school code, and to make the logistical process of navigating high school as a transgender person a bit easier for future students. Such a policy was created early the following year. In my senior year, I was president of my school’s Gay-Straight Alliance, and we successfully held and participated in an open-to-the-public panel discussion about our experiences as LGBTQ+ students at our school.
In recognition of these achievements, I was awarded the Live Out Loud Young Trailblazers Scholarship– you can watch my acceptance speech here.
